About Marc Piollet, French conductor

Born in Paris, Marc Piollet studied conducting and choral conducting at the Berlin University of the Arts. After positions at the Staatstheater Kassel and Volksoper in Vienna, he was General music director at the State Theater of Hesse in Wiesbaden (Germany) from 2004 to 2012 where he conducted acclaimed performances of Wagner’s complete Ring and new productions including Don Carlos, Elektra, Falstaff, Faust, Fidelio, Freischütz, Idomeneo, La Bohème, Lohengrin, Lulu, Rosenkavalier, Salome, Tristan und Isolde and Tosca.

Guest engagements led the conductor to the most important European Operas (Hamburg,  Antwerp, Cologne, Berlin, Vienna, Munich…). At the Opéra National de Paris he conducted Les Contes d’Hoffmann (with Rolando Villazon in the title role) and Le Barbier de Séville. Over the years he established a close collaboration with Teatro Real in Madrid before going to Montreal to conduct the Symphonic Orchestra. From here, he goes to the United States of America to conduct the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and to Asia with the China Philharmonic Orchestra and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra.

Being passionate about supporting young orchestra musicians, Marc Piollet regularly conducts trainings and other projects with the Junge Sinfonie Berlin, a youth orchestra which he founded whilst still being a student.
